Description
A Whitehall is a style of lapstrake-built rowboat developed in the United States in the 19th century. The basic design is much older and of European ancestry. It’s essentially a modified ship’s gig or river wherry optimized for speed and was used by watermen to ferry goods and people to ships in major waterfront cities. The boats were first made at the foot of Whitehall Street in New York city – thus the name.
